Introduction
Agriculture throughout the
world is posing the biggest threat to the environment. Lack
of sustainable agriculture is harming the environment in
many ways such as excessive use of water for irrigation,
soil salinity, biodiversity loss through dam building,
leaching of pesticide into the underground aquifers and
adverse health impacts on the farming communities. WWF-P is
working to optimize the use of pesticides and fertilizer in
agriculture, level the irrigated land in low cost, use of
organic product in order to reduce reliance on pesticides
and fertilizer. The main objective of the organization is to
achieve the true sustainability with the help of farm
efficiency and productivity along with protecting the
environment and its natural resources by promoting better
management practices (BMPs) through One Village One
Facilitator approach. The Better Management Practices (BMPs)
program of WWF means an activity in agriculture that is
beneficial to farmers socially, economically and
environmental includes BMPs. For promoting BMPs for Cotton
crop WWF-P has adopted One Village One Facilitator (OVOF)
approach which gives confidence to the farmer’s community to
take sustainable actions for improvement in agriculture.
